Every new school year, through Spes Cordis Mentoring Program (www.spescordis.org), Spes Cordis Apostolates started the annual activities with Parenting Recollection. The same thing happened this year on 15 until 16 July 2017. In this program, we explained about the mission of Spes Cordis apostolate, and introduced Domus Cordis community and other apostolates. Of course, during sessions, Spes Cordis sister companions also used the opportunity to talk with Teen Cordisians’ parents.
The first session was opened by Vindes with his story about his family background, and also about his life journey until the moment of knowing God as his savior. Then, how could we find God? Well, he is just a prayer away. Through our prayer, God send the Holy Spirit to give power and wisdom in our daily life. Clearly that Holy Spirit is really close to us.
Another testimony was from Yenny, who said that she never got any affirmation from her mother. She didn’t feel enough love from her mom. At last, she realized that only God’s love that could accept her as the way she is. After her testimony, Ms. Yenny invited all parents to do reflection about anything they were grateful in their family.
This recollection along the weekend got positive feedback from the parents, especially during Holy Spirit outpouring and parenting session. After the parents were introduced to God’s Love, named “Agape” through God’s salvation, they prayed for the new life and the new heart. After the session, some of the parents even continued their prayer in adoration room until the next session started.
For closing, there was a parenting session by Anne Gracia. The session was very good. Ms. Anne was really expert at psychology. She said that on this age period (junior and senior high school), teenagers experienced transition and changed from children to adult’s world, where their behavior were usually hard for the parents to understand. The teenagers also demanded for more privacy in their life. To build stronger family bonding, Ms. Anne invited the parents to start nurturing some habits such as praying together and reading Bible together, the same two habits that also became the commitment of Teen Cordisians.
For this program, some of teen cordisians who already got “7 habits” were asked to practice the habits by carrying out some tasks such as helping registration, prayer, consumption, and nursery. The very cool song leader, powerful heart-touching praise songs and interesting ice breaking made the parents felt energized and blessed to follow every session. Thank you for all members of the committee!
